“Influence of barometric pressure on the foraging behavior of the robber fly Mallophora ruficauda”
Abstract:
In my talk I will show some experiments and results we have conducted on the influence of barometric pressure as a modulator of the foraging behaviour. In particular we have been using Mallophora ruficauda, a dipteran parasitoid, as a model system. This species is known in South America for being an important apiculture pest. I will also show the studies we have been performing on trying to disentangle the structures involved in the detection of changes in barometric pressure. Finally, I will show you the new projects that I am starting to study thermal responses on different systems to try to focus on the development of mechanistic distribution models to try to predict risks of future invasions.
