“An overview of research on the beetle Harmonia axyridis in the CLIME lab”

Susana Clusella-Trullas de l’Université de Stellenbosch, South Africa, invitée par Sylvain, nous présentera ses travaux de recherche qui portent sur “An overview of research on the beetle Harmonia axyridis in the CLIME lab”

Abstract:

In this talk, I will discuss several projects that we have undertaken on the invasive beetle Harmonia axyridis (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) in my research group in the past few years. This species was introduced accidentally in the early 2000’s in the Western Cape Province, South Africa, and has spread rapidly across the country. It is highly invasive elsewhere and therefore there is an impetus to understand its potential impact on native coccinellids and how well it will persist in face of future environmental conditions. Furthermore, it has increasingly been used as a study species to tackle fundamental questions of thermal biology, phenotypic plasticity and resilience of invasive insects to climate change. I will touch upon several of these topics and present new directions we aim to tackle in the near future.
